Journal 25: The Ramayana of Valmiki

Read Book 2, Ayodhya 15-31, pages 728-735 (read until book 3). Follow ALL of the following instructions.

Rama does obey king Kaikeyi by agreeing to go into exile in the forest.  What is his immediate response?  How would you have responded?  Give one quote from the story.  Do you think Rama is a realistic character?  Why?  Give one quote to support your answer.  What emotion does Rama hide from most people, yet reveal to his wife? Explain the husband and wife's argument.  Give one quote.

Read pages 723-726 READ CAREFULLY!  There will be a quiz on Wednesday focused on the influence and culture of the story.

Journal 23: Chuang Chou, Chuang Tzu, Chap. 2

Read pages 705-712.  What are three philosophical points that promote a fuller life?  Quote them and elaborate. 3/4 page min.

Journal 22: Free Journal

Write about whatever you would like for 3/4 page.

If you are having trouble coming up with a topic.  Analyze the aphorism you chose/created.  Why did you write it?  What does it tell you about yourself?  Can you apply it to your own life?  How have you ignored or followed the truth of this aphorism in the past?

Read pages 695-703.  Then using what you've read create your own aphorism that you can/would like to apply to your own life.  There will be a brief quiz over the reading on Wednesday.

Read pages 686-688.  Then write your own poem based on a personal reflection from camp.  Use at least 3 stanzas of 2 lines each. Afterwards, explain the poems meaning.

Read pages 669-674 from the Poetics. Create a journal question that accurately summarizes or identifies the important information you have read.  Then answer the journal question with a 3/4 page min. journal.

Journal 18: The Apology of Socrates

Read pages 661-669.

Journal:  Why does Socrates refuse to beg the jury in a servile manner?  What is Socrates argument about death and his punishment?  How does Socrates declare that he fights for justice? Give at least three short quotes from the text.
